KUALA LUMPUR: Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said today Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has nothing to fear but the law itself.
The minister said the onus now was for the police to investigate the allegation of sodomy against him and subsequently submit the probe paper to the Attorney-General for the next course of action.
“There is law in this country and every one has to respect that, including Anwar Ibrahim,” he told reporters when met at Parliament lobby.
“I think it is odd to say there is no confidence in the police. He comes out of all those... very healthy. He uses the legal system. His life is not threatened. He goes around all over the country making speeches,” he said.
Anwar has said he could only cooperate with the police investigation if Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi could guarantee his safety and he has no confidence in the security provided by the police because of his experience in 1998.
“I don’t think it is a fair statement to say that he doesn’t have confidence in the police. All these while, Anwar’s life has never been in danger. I think that he trying to throw aspersions on the enforcement agency is something that is not fair,” said Syed Hamid.
